NHS Research Scotland (NRS) is a partnership involving the Scottish NHS Boards and the Chief Scientist Office (CSO) of the Scottish Government. The overarching aim of NRS is to ensure that NHS Scotland provides the best environment to support clinical research.  The CSO provides NRS funding to the NHS to support the effective delivery of clinical research and aims to increase the number of studies and the level of patient recruitment to research projects undertaken across Scotland.

Across NRS, specialist research support is structured nationally around a number of Topic Networks and Specialty Groups (SGs). This post provides managerial support at a national level for a number of SG Clinical Leads, and will also ensure that there is local oversight of all SG-supported research taking place within the NRS North Node (NHS Grampian, NHS Highland, NHS Western Isles, NHS Orkney and NHS Shetland), coordinating and supporting local activity to drive recruitment to clinical studies.

The CSO invests significant funds annually in supporting NRS infrastructure for clinical studies across NHSScotland and the successful applicant will work to ensure that there is an effective local dialogue between researchers, Universities and the NHS to deliver appropriate deployment of resources to support clinical research.

You will have day to day responsibility for gathering and acting on performance management information for clinical studies and will work closely with the existing NHS research governance and support structures to ensure that studies are effectively supported.

Delivering beneficial change to these established research groups is challenging, requiring both an operational understanding of the issues and strategic oversight of the task.
