Improving the lives and health of people living in care homes is a major priority, but care home residents are generally underrepresented in research studies. Enabling Research in Care Homes (ENRICH) Scotland aims to change this by strengthening support for research outside the NHS and involving all those with a stake in care homes in every step of the process.
To move this work forward, ENRICH Scotland has established the ‘RICH (Research In Care Homes) Voices’ patient and public involvement group, which will bring together care home staff, residents, and researchers to discuss and influence the design and delivery of research, with the goal of improving the quality of life, treatments, and care for all residents.
So, if you are:
- a person living in a care home
- someone who supports a family member or friend living in a care home
- a member of care home staff
- a member of the public interested in care home research

RICH Voices conference presentation - Who are RICH Voices?
Participating in research is beneficial to care home staff and residents for several reasons, whether as part of a study, or joining our RICH Voices group. It can provide a stimulating experience for residents and their families, allowing them to feel like they are contributing to the future; can lead to professional opportunities for staff; and encourages researchers and funders to address issues that are of interest to care home residents, such as symptom management, activities, or end-of-life care.
It is with this in mind that we encourage everyone interested to get involved with RICH Voices, and shape how research is carried out in care homes.
